Philip and Alexander Review

Philip and Alexander: Kings and Conquerers by Adrian Goldsworthy! I know, I know… it’s neither fantasy nor is it even fiction, but I occasionally like to sprinkle in a few history books… and my, was this one one of the best I’ve ever read.

Alexander; one of the most well known men and war-generals of all time. There are TONS of books about him, but I’m glad I found this one. One of my favorite periods in history is the Hellenistic period, and this book satisfied that want. Goldsworthy starts off with a worthwhile introduction where he explains how Philip and mainly Alexander are still human beings and had personalities, a fact that he pushes hard throughout the book, and I really enjoyed that.

I am no scholar of history, so I cannot back this up, but Goldsworthy claims to have written as much as he could about the two men while sticking to what we know of the men, another thing he brings up time and again through his history.

The book was set up in more of a story like manner (not like a historical fiction though) and was VERY well organized. I despise history books that bounce all over the place and are very hard to keep up with. Philip and Alexander was not that. I followed the entire story from beginning to end, and ever after taking a rest break while waiting for my hold at the library to be ready, I remember everything that had happened previously.

I would definitely recommend Philip and Alexander to any history enthusiast like me and give it 8/10 🧀
